WELCOME TO MY BLOG

I currently work for the Professional Development Program and am a grad. student at U Albany studying Curriculum Development and Instructional Technologies. I also coach football, but this is my way of being a techy. I'll be writing on various topics that all have the common theme of technology and education. The main focus will be on the adult learner. I hope you choose to become a follower, the world needs them too.

Technology Saved My Technology

So I thought I'd share this interesting story. Last weekend I came home from my weekend trip to my girlfriend's in White Plains. It was about 7PM and when I got to my front door it was cracked open and had been forced opened. No lights were on in the house and I called the police as a break in was obvious. So when all is said and done I lost some money but the criminals left my digital cameras, computer etc.
Two weird things happened: my web cam wire was cut and the computer tower was turned off manually. Thought nothing of it until the next night.
I was having some issues recording audio. I wondered if my speakers were on, but then remembered my anti-virus software announced that it had updated over the speakers. Can you solve the mystery of why I probably still have my computer, cameras etc?
So when the criminals moved stuff on my desk they woke up my computer. Once that happened the internet connection kicked in and Avast anti-virus software announced over the speakers "Virus database has been updated." This probably scared them, caused them to think they were on camera, cut the cord, turn of the tower and leave quickly out the side door.
Technology if used correctly is great for education. It's also great for theft protection.
